Bible Refresher 49 - What is Greatness?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to become an amazing painter or a great doctor. But what is your purpose? Is it for personal gain and/or selfish interests? The true Christian will want to become great in order to be God's instrument, ready to be used to help others. The true Christian will bring himself down in order to help others up; they will not see themselves as glorious beings deserving of praise from others. I love what the author of Steps To Christ says in chapter 7:

The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to His perfect nature...if we do not see our own moral deformity, it is unmistakable evidence that we have not had a view of the beauty and excellence of Christ."

"Recovering the Remnant" has the book Steps To Christ in stock right now. Basically, they are a non-profit group dedicated to distributing pre-purchased bible study material, 100% free. You just need to fill out a form requesting what you want and they mail it to you, usually within 1-2 days of receiving the request. They don't keep records of your information to track you or send spam mail or anything of that sort. I personally know the people, so I can assure you they are safe and reliable. Get it Here

Personally, Steps To Christ is one of my favorite devotional books I've ever read, because:

1: It's fairly short. It's only 13 chapters and they're each only a few pages.
2: It was first published in 1892, so it still has some of the beautiful, old-fashioned poetic language of that time.
3: It beautifully portrays God's love for humanity. There are actually multiple testimonies of people who converted to Christianity from reading this book. ^^
