Public preaching has gained a pretty bad reputation over the years, mainly because many of them came from fanatic denominations, and as a result, well-meaning Christians also end up feeling "dirty" evangelizing to others. But there's other ways of witnessing to others.
My dad has had serious issues with work because of our beliefs. Despite the mocking hostility he's experienced from his boss and co-workers, he is now one of the workers with the best reviews, and has gradually gained the respect of his boss and supervisors. The co-workers that mocked him are now starting to ask questions instead of berating him. I am proud to call him my father, and I hope to have the bravery he has when I enter my field of work. ^^
You don't have to be a preacher to bring people to Christ. We are all witnesses, 24/7, and sometimes all someone needs is a smile or a word of encouragement. Never be afraid to talk about God - you never know when the person listening will think, "Gee, I want what this person has" and become a Christian too.
We are CHRISTIANS - children of GOD! We should be anything but ashamed!
Guys, I literally grew up listening to this group; they've been around since 1971, and my church (globally speaking) loves these guys.
